There are two types of licenses:

  • Permissive licenses only protect authorship (LIEN INTERNE) and limit liability. They authorize reuse, redistribution, and even commercial use or modification of the license. Examples include: :
    • licenses BSDL, Apache, CeCILL-B and MIT for software. Visit this site for a list of available licenses.
    • la licence ouverte Etalabb (in french) for data.
  • Reciprocal licenses require that the original license conditions be maintained and extended to any derivative works. They may, in particular, restrict the commercial use of data and code. These include:
    • For software, the Mozilla, GNU GPL, and CeCILL licenses (See again this site)
    • For databases : Open Database License
    • For data, media : licences Creative Commons : CC BY-ND (Attribution-No Derivatives), CC BY-NC (Attribution-Non Commercial), CC BY-SA (Attribution-ShareAlike) and their combinations (CC BY-ND-NC, etc.).
